Argyll and the Isles

Rugged Landscapes and Dramatic Coastlines

Argyll and The Isles, located on Scotland’s west coast, are known for their rugged landscapes, dramatic coastlines, and a rich blend of history and culture. Argyll features stunning scenery, including sea lochs, mountains, and forests, making it a popular destination for outdoor activities like hiking, sailing, and wildlife watching.

The region is home to historical landmarks such as Inveraray Castle, the seat of the Dukes of Argyll, and Kilmartin Glen, which boasts one of Europe’s most important prehistoric sites, with standing stones, cairns, and ancient rock carvings.

The Isles, a group of over 20 inhabited islands including Islay, Jura, Mull, and Iona, are famous for their natural beauty, whisky distilleries, and early Christian heritage. Islay, often called the “Whisky Isle,” is renowned for its smoky, peaty single malts. Iona is known for its abbey and its role as a center of early Scottish Christianity, where St. Columba established a monastery in the 6th century.

Argyll and The Isles offer a unique combination of scenic beauty, history, and cultural heritage, making it a magical part of Scotland to explore.
