Boat on the water in Stornoway
Stornoway is a charming little town on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, and it's the main hub of the islands.

It’s got this cosy, small-town vibe mixed with a bit of bustle because it’s where you’ll find the island’s shops, cafes, and restaurants. Life in Stornoway revolves around the sea, and the harbour is usually filled with fishing boats, ferries, and sometimes even a visiting tall ship.

One of the town’s claims to fame is Stornoway Black Pudding—a Scottish delicacy made right there with a unique recipe that’s known (and loved) across the country. You can find it on breakfast menus everywhere, and for many, it’s a must-try.

The town also has a good mix of culture and history. There’s Lews Castle, which is worth a wander—both for the gorgeous views and the museum inside, where you can learn more about the islands’ history. Stornoway is also where the annual Hebridean Celtic Festival takes place, drawing in musicians and crowds from near and far for a few days of music and celebration.

In Stornoway, things move at a laid-back, island pace. People are friendly, there’s always something to see, and it’s a fantastic jumping-off point for exploring the stunning landscapes of Lewis and Harris. Whether you’re there for the black pudding, the castle, or just to soak in the island life, Stornoway has a special way of making you feel right at home.
